Awesomely Geeky Dad Dicken Schrader Collaborates With Kids For Depeche Mode Cover

All the ingredients for a classic embarrassing dad moment are there: a geeky father, a tight v-neck shirt, a videocamera in the basement, an old Yamaha keyboard and a record from 1983.

But somehow, Colombian video artist and kick-ass dad Dicken Schrader was able to avoid a common fatherhood pitfall in an awesome new music video covering Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts," the latest in a series of adorable videos from the dad-kid band "Dicken feat. Milah and Korben."

Milah and Korben are no stranger to Depeche Mode, either: they previously teamed up with their dad to cover "Strangelove" and "Shake the Disease."

'Lost' George Harrison Guitar Solo Discovered in 'Here Comes the Sun' Tapes

'Abbey Road' is revered by Beatles fans the world over. It was the last album they ever recorded, and its sequencing and construction are so tight it's difficult to imagine any second of this album being different than it is now, almost as if it sprung fully formed from the minds of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Yet, 43 years after its making, a lost George Harrison guitar solo for 'Here Comes the Sun' has been unearthed.

The discarded guitar part was intended to appear about one minute into the song and was discovered by Harrison's son, Dhani, longtime Beatles producer Sir George Martin and his son, collaborator Giles.

"It's totally different to anything I've ever heard," confesses Dhani in the video, which you can watch below. For his part, George Martin coolly admits, "I'd forgotten about that."

The solo was found among the original master tapes during a trip the trio took to Abbey Road Studios, which famously lent its name to the Beatles' swan song. The tapes also feature a stronger presence of the Moog synthesizer, which is tucked deeper into the mix on the album version. Check it out below

Yarn Bombing: A Global Graffiti Phenomenon

I’ve got another trend alert for you today, and this time, it’s a form of beautifully artistic vandalism, art or graffiti (whichever description you prefer) called yarn bombing. I remember reading an article about this a few years ago, but it’s definitely becoming more popular now. Yarn bombing can be found in cities all over the world.

Just last week in an article called Graffiti’s Cozy Feminine Side, the New York Times read, “Yarn bombing takes that most matronly craft (knitting) and the most maternal of gestures (wrapping something cold in a warm blanket) and transfers it to the concrete and steel wilds of urban streetscape.” I think it’s refreshing to see graffiti art created from something other than paint or chalk, and since yarn can be easily removed, it’s not as damaging to whatever surface it’s placed on.

There is just something about this softer side of graffiti tagging that I really like. Whether it’s on a telephone pole, park bench, tree branch, mailbox, fence, it doesn’t matter, I think it looks nice and adds a little personality to an otherwise dull space. Yarn bombers everywhere are completely changing the perception we have of knitting. It’s no longer only a quiet, introverted, introspective craft for loners and old ladies. Knitting is suddenly cool!

Alec Baldwin still wants to run for office. Which office and when, however, is entirely up in the air.

The "30 Rock" star has long flirted with a political campaign. In a new interview with Piers Morgan set to air on Wednesday, Baldwin says he wants to run but pushes a potential campaign back a few years, saying that he still plans on acting for a while and that two years is an eternity in politics.

"In that amount of time, maybe in the not too distant future, I'll survey that again and think, is there an opportunity for me?" he tells the host. "Because in New York for example, we have safe Democratic seats around the horn to so speak, it's the governor and the AG [attorney general] and the two senate seats, so what I would run for and when it would be [is] something I'd have to give a lot of thought."

Over the summer, the actor said that he was thinking of running for Mayor of New York City, but sometime after 2013 due to his acting commitments and his desire to learn more about the responsibilities of the office.

In 2009, Baldwin offered himself as a potential candidate against Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent who has long frustrated liberals.

Baldwin in late 2010 mused about a Congressional run from his home of Long Island, and said that an Ohio law firm offered to move him out to the state and help him run for governor.

In December, he said on his WNYC podcast that he was no longer interested in running.

Pat Sajak is admitting to hosting under the influence.

The longtime face of "Wheel of Fortune," said he has hosted the popular show while drunk.

"Yes," Sajak admitted with a laugh when to Dan Le Batard of "Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable" asked if he ever hosted the show inebriated. "When I first started and was much younger and could tolerate those things, we had a different show then."

In "Wheel of Fortune's" early format, Sajak found himself with two-and-a-half-hour dinner breaks while they changed up the prizes. So he and his right-hand woman Vanna White would go out to Los Arcos, a nearby Mexican restaurant in Burbank, for some margaritas.

"Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet. They're really great tapes to get a hold of," Sajak said.

With the duo averaging four margaritas per outing, did alcohol make the show better or worse? "I had a great time. I have no idea if the shows were any good, but no one said anything, so I guess I did OK," Sajak said.

However, alcohol is no longer a player in Sajak's hosting duties. He added: "I would be hesitant to have anything to drink now."

With the steering wheel in one hand, and a video camera in the other, dad Zachary Russell kept driving as his wife Jennifer gave birth. The couple was racing down Highway 287 in Texas towards a birthing center when Jennifer went into labor. "By the time my water broke, I pushed once and she was out," the second-time mom told kiitv.
Jennifer was shocked by how quickly she delivered because, with her first child, she labored for 12 hours. This time, despite the circumstances, Zachary was determined to catch the whole thing on camera. He held his right band behind the passenger side seat, made sure the birth was in frame and managed to keep both eyes on the road. When baby Willow arrived, he even captured Jennifer on film unwrapping the umbilical chord.
The couple told kiitv that the Ford compact they were in will have to be Willow's first car so she can tell people, "Okay, I was born right there!"

Newt Gingrich claims to think big thoughts that no one else thinks, when really all he’s done in his career is speak or rather be Speakery or historiany, which does not require thought. Case in point: back when his hair was big enough to better shield his ears from hearing the inanity/insanity of what he was saying, Gingrich actually supported a bill that would imprison, and in certain cases put to death, anyone who brought more than two ounces of a controlled substance into the country. The Drug Importer Death Penalty Act of 1996 was only ever introduced, but it’s an interesting choice of pet project for someone who used to smoke pot … because it was, as he put it, “a sign that we were alive and in graduate school” (PICTURED).
From the Congressional Research Service, here’s the text of the theoretical legislation, H.R. 4170, in question:
Amends the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act to direct the court to sentence a person convicted of bringing into the United States a proscribed quantity of a mixture or substance containing a controlled substance in an amount the Attorney General has determined is equal to 100 usual dosage amounts to life imprisonment without possibility of release (or, if the defendant has violated such provision on more than one occasion and if certain requirements under the Federal criminal code are met, to death). Makes conforming amendments to the code.
As per usual with any of these fools, Gingrich actually advocated for medical marijuana before he turned vehemently against the stuff. But in 1995, he showed his support of H.R. 4170, and “suggested that mass executions of people convicted under such a law might prove an effective deterrent,” wrote the New York Times at the time. During a 1995 fundraising event for Representative Charlie Norwood, Gingrich said:
If you import a commercial quantity of illegal drugs, it is because you have made the personal decision that you are prepared to get rich by destroying our children. I have made the decision that I love our children enough that we will kill you if you do this.

In 1958, Richard & Mildred wed in DC, where interracial marriage was legal. When they returned to Virginia ... they were arrested.

Before June of 1967, sixteen states still prohibited interracial marriage, including Virginia, the home of Richard Perry Loving, a white man, and his wife, Mildred Loving, a woman of African-American and Native-American descent.
Nine years prior, in June 1958, the couple traveled to Washington, D.C. -- where interracial marriage was legal -- to get married. When they returned home, however, they were arrested and sentenced to one year in jail for violating the state's Racial Integrity Act.
According to court documents, the trial judge suspended the Lovings' sentence for a period of 25 years on the condition that they leave the State and not return to Virginia together for 25 years. He stated in an opinion that:
Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And, but for the interference with his arrangement, there would be no cause for such marriage. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.
After spending five years in Washington, where Richard worked as a bricklayer and where the couple had their three children -- Peggy, Donald and Sidney -- they sought out the help of a young attorney named Bernard Cohen who was volunteering at the time with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The Lovings requested that Cohen ask the Caroline County, Virginia judge to reconsider his decision, a move that would lead to one of the civil rights movement's most pivotal moments: the legalization of interracial marriage.

"They were very simple people, who were not interested in winning any civil rights principle," Cohen told NPR in an interview marking the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the conviction of Richard and Mildred Loving.
"They just were in love with one another and wanted the right to live together as husband and wife in Virginia, without any interference from officialdom. When I told Richard that this case was, in all likelihood, going to go to the Supreme Court of the United States, he became wide-eyed and his jaw dropped," Cohen said.
In June 1967, the court unanimously declared Virginia's Racial Integrity Act of 1924 unconstitutional and ended all race-based marriage bans in the U.S.
During Richard and Mildred's epic "Loving v. Virginia" legal battle, LIFE magazine photographer Grey Villet traveled to Virginia to cover the case, but his photos offered a more intimate look at the couple and their family, their dedication to each other, daily life in Virginia and the countryside they cherished.

THURSDAY, Jan. 19. 2012 (HealthDay News) — The number of Americans who practice behaviors that put them at risk for HIV infection has declined significantly, federal health officials reported Thursday.

The ranks of those engaging in a risky sexual or drug-related behavior dropped from 13 percent of men and 11 percent of women in 2002 to 10 percent and 8 percent, respectively, in 2010, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Generally, these are behaviors that are studied in higher risk populations, but by looking in the household population we can get a better sense of the level of risk that may exist in the general population that you don't normally think about," said report author Anjani Chandra, a health scientist at the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics.

Some of the risk factors the researchers looked at were gay and bisexual sex, illicit drug use and having several sexual partners or a partner who injects illegal drugs, she said.

"For women, we don't really see that the decline is due to any variation in sexual risk behaviors, whereas for men we see substantial difference by race," she said.

The reasons for the decline in risk behaviors is not clear, Chandra said. Some of the public health messages might be getting through. It also could be that people are reluctant to disclose that they engage in risky behaviors, she said.

"But, it could be real and reflect actual changes in behavior," she said.

The data in the report was collected on almost 23,000 men and women aged 15 to 44 in households throughout the country and represents 6.5 million men and 4.9 million women.

The decline seems to be due to a drop in risky behaviors such as having unprotected sex and having sex with multiple partners, Chandra said.

There were, however, differences in behaviors in different groups. For example, men who had recently been in prison were more likely to report engaging in one or more HIV risk behaviors, compared with other men, the researchers found.

There were also significant variations based on race and income level, they reported.

Sixteen percent of young black men ages 15 to 24 reported at least one HIV risk-related sexual behavior, compared with 8.7 percent of Hispanic men and 6.5 percent of young white men. Poorer men were also more likely to engage in risky behaviors.

The HIV risk in households is not something one usually thinks about when one thinks about HIV risk, Chandra said.

"In household populations, where you may think these behaviors are nonexistent or very rare, they are occurring and they may be placing people at risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases," Chandra said. "Just focusing on high-risk populations may not take care of the concerns that we have."

Dr. Sten Vermund, director of the Institute of Global Health at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, said that the data used was "a highly valid sample of the American population."

Both sexual and drug-related risk behaviors declined in the study period, and that is a positive trend, he said.

"Risk behaviors remain high and the likelihood of encountering an HIV-infected person has never been higher," Vermund noted. "Nonetheless, there is a strong indication that prevention programs are working or cultural norms are shifting, or both."

Philip Alcabes, an associate professor in the School of Health Sciences at Hunter College/City University of New York, is critical of the report as another example of how the government still avoids the real problem of HIV.

"What a waste of time and taxpayer dollars," he said. "Having failed to advocate for structural changes that would actually reduce risk of HIV acquisition and having failed to implement widespread, easily accessible syringe exchange programs, federal agencies instead spend their time studying personal behavior. It's a shame."

"Even though our officials don't have a clear concept of what really happened 30 years ago, they are still looking at AIDS through the same moralizing lens that was common in 1981. That's sad, and disturbing," he said.

Karruim Demaio, a former McDonald's employee, shot a cell phone video of a mouse trapped in a bag of Big Mac buns at a Philadelphia McDonald's. In the video below, the frantic mouse tramples across many different buns. According to Demaio, the manager ordered the employees to serve the buns, and has previously wiped off mouse droppings from buns and then served them. When Fox 29 asked the manager, she denied the claims.

"I was working there from October of 2010 to January of this year. There hasn't been a time when we couldn't go in the back and see mouse droppings on the bread," Demaio told Fox 29.

According to the Philadelphia Health Department, this particular McDonald's is not in satisfactory compliance with health standards; the owner is investigating the claims.

Trent Arsenault, A 'Donorsexual', Claims He's A Virgin

Trent Arsenault has fathered 14 kids, but has never known the joys of intimacy.

Yes, this self-proclaimed "donorsexual" is a 36-year-old virgin despite his impressive success at reproducing.

Arsenault, a Silicon Valley computer security specialist, told an incredulous Anderson Cooper that he has never had a sex partner and feels it's his duty to the couples who use his sperm not to deplete the supply.

"I've committed 100 percent of my sexual energy for producing sperm for childless couples to have babies. So I don't have other activity outside of that," he said, adding that he will probably be a 40-year-old virgin with 15 kids, according to Newser.com.

Arsenault doesn't charge for his baby batter, but his unconventional methods have spurred the Food and Drug Administration to issue a cease-and-desist order, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

The FDA alleges that Arsenault did not take the legally required precautions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

Although Arsenault has attracted sympathy from various people who believe the FDA's edict sets a dangerous precedent, other activities of his have aroused controversy, such as the 100-plus videos he has posted online showing him masturbating with unusual aids such as a water polo ball and frozen packs of organic blueberries.

Regardless of what happens, Arsenault may believe the end result justifies the means, especially after he met one of his donor children for the first time at the taping for "Anderson."

"I'm trying not to get too emotional," he told Radar Online. "I'm just extremely happy that she's healthy and in a loving home. I hope she has the gene of compassion and her parents nurture that."

A Japanese photographer who goes by Photographer Hal finds couples who interest him at underground bars and other "places which are full of activity like luscious
night time bee-hives." He then proposes his unusual project and hopes the couples will want to take their relationship to the next level. The result is called 'Flesh Love,' a collection of ready-packed lovers sealed, fresh and ready to go.

The couples cuddle up to each other as closely as possible and are wrapped in a plastic vacuum-sealed blanket. Hal captures this moment of cocooned intimacy with a couple of shots before removing the plastic wrapping. The results are moments of bizarre but beautiful intimacy. The couples look like a mixture of packed meats, full-grown embryos and (dare we say it) John and Yoko in their legendary bedroom shoot.

Though the images are radically strange, there is a sense of sweetness to them. They are, at their core, images of love, and what is ultimately stranger and crazier than love?

Occasional Pot Smoking Won't Harm Lungs

20-year study finds a few joints a month have no effect, but other experts differ.

TUESDAY, Jan. 10, 2012 (HealthDay News) — Unlike the cigarette habit, occasional pot smoking does not seem to trigger declines in lung function that could lead to breathing problems, a new 20-year study suggests.

"Tobacco takes you down that road toward breathlessness, but low to moderate levels of marijuana don't," said study co-author Dr. Stefan Kertesz.

But there were limits to the study. For example, the findings do not indicate whether occasional (two or three joints a month) pot smokers face a higher risk of lung diseases such as cancer.

Nevertheless, the research should fuel the ongoing debate overmedical marijuana, which critics say is too hazardous to serve as a drug to treat conditions such as pain.

It is clear that marijuana smoke irritates the lungs, causing coughing and sputum production, and addiction to marijuana obviously causes problems, noted Kertesz, an associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. However, as with alcohol and other drugs, the question of harm becomes more ambiguous when it comes to more occasional users who aren't addicted, he said.

"What about the adults who use three joints of marijuana a month for many years?" he said. "Clarifying that is actually quite difficult."

In the new study, researchers examined the findings of a study, which began in 1985, of more than 5,100 people aged 18-30 from Oakland, Calif.; Chicago; Minneapolis; and Birmingham, Ala. Every few years over two decades, the participants took lung tests that measured their lung function through their ability to blow hard into a tube.

The typical tobacco user smoked eight to nine cigarettes a day, while the marijuana users in the study smoked about two to three times over the past 30 days. "That's really different from ['pothead' film icons] Cheech and Chong," he said. "Americans who smoke marijuana typically don't smoke it every day."

Respiratory risks did seem to rise with the intensity of marijuana use, however. The study authors found increasing evidence of lung trouble among people who smoked marijuana more heavily (20 or more times a month).

The study findings appear in the Jan. 11 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Kertesz said that research has consistently shown that "with tobacco smokers, the more use of tobacco that's accumulated, the more airflow and lung volume is lost over time." But that wasn't the case with mild to moderate users of marijuana, he and his colleagues found.

Dr. Robert Hancox, a New Zealand scientist who has studied marijuana, praised the research. But he also believes that pot smoking has negative respiratory effects.

"Smoking marijuana definitely harms the lungs," said Hancox, an associate professor at the University of Otago's department of preventive and social medicine. "Several studies have clearly shown that even light marijuana smokers can develop severe bronchitis with symptoms of cough and phlegm production. Studies have also demonstrated that smoking marijuana leads to abnormal lung function, but using different tests to those used by this study. What this study shows is that the pattern of lung damage seen with marijuana is not the same as caused by tobacco."

And one advocate against drug abuse noted that the study has a variety of limitations.

"A significant problem is that cannabis use is often difficult to quantify precisely due to smokers sharing joints, different inhalation techniques and different ways of smoking cannabis, including joints, pipes and bongs," said Calvina Fay, executive director of Drug Free America Foundation. "By comparison, the average amount of tobacco in a commercial cigarette of standard length is 1 gram."

Also, Fay said, "it is important to not forget the numerous other serious consequences of marijuana use," such as cognitive and learning problems, psychosis, addiction, criminal behavior and impaired driving, "none of which were considered in this study."

On the other side of the argument is Paul Armentano, deputy director of the national pro-marijuana group NORML. He said that people can now virtually eliminate the lung-irritating effects of marijuana by using vaporizer devices.

Armentano added that, in his opinion, science has determined alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs "to be far more dangerous and costlier to society than cannabis," but they are regulated instead of banned.

Rapper and medicinal marijuana enthusiast Snoop Dogg was arrested this weekend in Texas when a drug-sniffing dog discovered marijuana on his tour bus. The agents claim that a red prescription bottle with several joints was found in a trash can towards the back of the vehicle.
While Snoop is legally prescribed with his medicine of choice in California, Texas has a zero tolerance policy towards weed. When stopped and caught at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Snoop admitted to that the cannabis was his, was arrested and given a citation for misdemeanor drug possession.

Sierra Blanca is the very same town where fellow weed enthusiast and Snoop's "brother from another mother" Willie Nelson was busted in 2010, provoking Snoop's now-famous "They better leave Willie the f--- alone" rant.
Under a half-ounce of cannabis was confiscated from the tour bus. Snoop Dogg has been released but could face up to 180 days in jail if convicted of the drug charge.

This December, in a surprisingly simple yet ridiculously amazing installation for the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, artist Yayoi Kusama constructed a large domestic environment, painting every wall, chair, table, piano, and household decoration a brilliant white, effectively serving as a giant white canvas. Over the course of two weeks, the museum’s smallest visitors were given thousands upon thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space, turning the house into a vibrantly mottled explosion of color. How great is this? Given the opportunity my son could probably cover the entire piano alone in about fifteen minutes. The installation, entitled The Obliteration Room, is part of Kusama’s Look Now, See Forever exhibition that runs through March 12.

Every year is filled with stories of employees who -- to put it diplomatically -- didn't think before acting. And 2011 was no exception.

Whether it was the Chick-fil-A cashier in Southern California who substituted derogatory words for two Asian customers' real names on their receipts or the Indonesian politician caught watching pornduring a session of parliament or the Pennsylvania man who tainted co-workers yogurt with his own semen, there was no lack of shortsightedness on the part of workers.

To recognize workers' misdeeds, we offer these 11 stories of employee stupidity, chosen by our editors as some of the worst faux pas of 2011:

'There Is A Bomb Inside'

Um, not really. Elementary school gym teacher Jennifer Gomes just didn't want to go to work and opted to instead leave a, ahem, volatile note warning of a bomb at the main entrance of Escuela de Guadalupe school in northwest Denver. AsKUSA-TV reported in October, Gomes was suspended from her job and charged with one count of false reporting of explosives, a felony. Perhaps next time, she'll just take a personal day.

He Couldn't Be Bought With Mere Apples

Staying with the education theme, we turn to Charlotte County, Fla., where high school teacher Jeff Spires was suspended in October for soliciting money from his students. According to a school investigation, Spires told his class to staple or paperclip cash to the back of their quizzes if they wanted to sweeten their grades, WZVN-TV reported last month. After the investigation, which reportedly revealed one junior paying as much as $70 to boost his grade to a B from a C, Spires resigned. When asked why he did it, Spires reportedly replied, "That's what I don't know, why."

Flying Isn't The Only Way To Get High

In one of the year's more noteworthy work-related items, more than three dozen employees at a Boeing Co. plant near Philadelphia were arrested for illegally selling prescription drugs, including oxycodone and Xanax. Federal authorities were tipped off to the unlawful activity by the aircraft maker after an internal investigation, The Associated Press reported in September. For the workers, it appears, making helicopters wasn't their favorite way of getting high.

Manager Gets It Backward

A Taco Bell manager in California may have been trying to "think outside the bun," but she got herself into legal hot water after an employee accused her of running a Ponzi scheme at a Taco Bell franchise in Goleta, near Santa Barbara. The plan required employees to surrender $100 each payday, Courthouse News Service reported in October. But assistant manager Jeorgina Cervantes De Gomez grew tired of the scheme, refused to pay up and soon found herself on the unemployment line. So Gomez sued the manager, Doralinda Vargas, seeking back wages and damages. Perhaps someone needs to enlighten Vargas that it's employees who get paid by management, not the other way around.

Music Hath Charms To Soothe The Savage Thief?

In one of the year's grimmer examples of stupidity, Wisconsin cemetery worker Steven Conard was accused of stealing a guitar from a casket, Smoking Gun reported in September. Conard, a musician and band member, at first denied stealing the instrument, a prized Fender Telecaster that had been spied by a co-worker "in plain view" in Conard's house. When pressed by police, however, Conard relented and handed the stolen instrument over. "This isn't something I normally do," Conard reportedly said. "I just have a respect for fine musical instruments."

TSA Agent Gets 'Freaky'

Air travel for many Americans is a frustrating experience these days, fraught with small infringements on flyers' dignity, with perhaps no better example than what happened to Jill Filipovic, a lawyer and feminist blogger who flew from Newark, N.J., recently. Upon arrival in Dublin, she discovered a standard inspection tag in her luggage left by a Transportation Security Administration agent -- except this tag had scrawled along its side: "GET YOUR FREAK ON GIRL." The agent apparently had discovered the author's vibrator. Filipovic, who blogged about the incident, filed a complaint with the TSA, which responded in a statement that it "takes all allegations of inappropriate conduct seriously and is investigating the claim" and promised "appropriate disciplinary action."

At Drop-Off, Driver Drops The Ball

Key to being a successful bus driver is getting your passengers where they need to be. That's why is was particularly alarming last summer when an unidentified school bus driver for suburban Chicago-based Alpha School Bus Co. failed to notice that a 19-year-old student with Down syndrome had fallen asleep on the way to school, the Chicago Tribune reported. Once the company realized the student hadn't been dropped off, "we immediately returned the child to school and contacted school officials," regional manager Caprice Sanfratello said at the time. Sanfratello called the incident unacceptable and noted that state law requires bus operators to inspect the bus to insure that no students remain on board after completing a route to prevent precisely this kind of incident. It perhaps unsurprising then that the bus driver in question was immediately terminated.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does

Any fan of courtroom dramas knows that maintaining courtroom decorum is an integral part of a judge's job. So it should have come as little surprise to Matthew Bartlett, a waiter who sat in on the Casey Anthony murder trial last spring, that a judge took exception to Bartlett shooting "the bird"to the prosecutor in the case. Chief Judge Belvin Perry wasn't amused by the profane gesture, and had Bartlett, who worked at a T.G.I. Fridays in Orlando, Fla., immediately arrested for criminal contempt, WESH-TV reported. When asked what a raised middle finger represents Bartlett told the judge, "the F-word." He then apologized, saying, "it was just a stupid thing I did." We agree.

Urine-Soaked Employee Relieved of Job

Adherers to urine therapy believe that the byproduct secreted by the kidneys can be used to cure all manner of ailments -- both inside and outside the body. Museum employee Alfred Zoppelt didn't ingest his own urine but he did routinely used it to wash his hands and face. That was a bit much for management at the Belvedere, a castle in Vienna with a major art collection, which employed Zoppelt -- until last summer. That's when Zoppelt was let go, even though his adherance to urine therapy was, as Zoppelt put it, "never a problem." The museum declined to comment on Zoppelt's dismissal except to confirm that he indeed was no longer a Belvedere employee.

And Now For No. 2

Many people likely give little thought about where postal delivery workers relieve themselves on their daily routes. But Portland, Ore.,-resident Don Derfler became very aware last spring after he witnessed a postal worker defecating on a neighbor's lawn. Derfler, who said that he noticed the postal worker acting strangely, took photos of the incident. "To come on to our property and to defecate -- it's just wrong," Derfler told KATU-TV. The Postal Service conducted a probe and determined the offending employee could keep his job but would be assigned a different route. We hope it's one with a public toilet along the way.

All We Can Say Is 'Ouch!'

Lastly, from our "You Must Be Kidding!" department, we give you Stuart Keen, a 54-year-old carpenter in Wantage, England, who last summer mistook his penis for a piece of wood and accidentally cut it off while working with a saw. "This was an unfortunate accident, but these things happen all the time to people in his profession," Keen's mother, Edna, told The Sunday Telegraph. Fortunately for Keen, surgeons were able to reattach the severed member. No word yet on whether Keen has since changed professions.
